The ‘Giannoula K’ is a Cargo ship built in The Netherlands, which sailed the seas in 1953.Once it had travelled a lot and had changed a lot of owners and names it sunk at Plimmiri. 28 years later, a cargo motorship 110m ,which carried steel metal, with two rows of big holds ,shipwrecked during its voyage outside the island of Rhodes. It crashed onto a reef known as ‘sixmile’ and due to its distance from land ,the captain trying to save the merchandise brought the ship as close to the land as was possible. [about a mile]. The crew fled the ship, which remained tied and without a captain for days. By the time the owning company came to rescue the merchandise, the ship had sunk on the sandy bottom of the sea due to the bad weather conditions and the inflow of water in the ship.
