Anthony Quinn Bay & Ladiko Bay – Beaches of Rhodes island

Anthony Quinn Bay is located on the island’s eastern coast right next to Faliraki. This beach is nestled in a tiny cove officially named “Vaghies.” The bay has a width of 10 meters and a length of 250 meters with rocks, pebbles and fine sand both inside and outside the sea.

Pine trees, with some found right at the sea’s edge, play an important role in the gorgeous emerald hues of the environment. The beach is perfect for people who love to swim in secluded lagoons, dive, snorkel, or just gaze on the rocks. All excursion boats and sailboats can stop in the bay for a nice swim.

What’s Behind the Name?

When he was filming his movie The Guns of Navarone, Anthony Quinn, the famous Mexican actor, purchased this portion of the island in the hopes of developing a global center for filmmakers and artists. Quinn felt in love with the miniature bay. Sadly, his goal didn’t come to fruition even after his investments and tries. Locals have gotten so used to calling the area Anthony Quinn’s bay that the name remained to this day.

Activities to Do at Anthony Quinn Bay

This picturesque bay on Rhodes’ east coast is perfect for sunbathing, scuba diving, snorkeling and of course, swimming.

This attractive small cove is the place to be to simply enjoy the natural beauty below and above the Aegean Sea.

There is a stairway leading from the side of the road down to the beach and there, you will find the narrow stretch to of pebbles and golden sand with large rocks interspersed between them. There are forested cliffs surrounding the beach that protection from the harsh winds and shade from the harsh sun.

You can also rent an umbrella and sun lounge and look for the perfect spot on the beach for sunbathing. But if this is not your thing, you can just stretch out on that flat surface of a rock jutting from the middle of the bay. The place has enough room for several sun lounges.

Anthony Quinn Bay is also ideal for a refreshing dip in the warm water of emerald green color. Just take note that the seabed here is rocky so if young kids are with you during your visit, it is best that you accompany them when they enter the water. The crystal clear sea is also perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling and you can rent the available equipment at the beach. As for food, you can enjoy a picnic or go to the tiny taverna located close to the top of the stairway.

With its turquoise crystal clear water and tranquil surroundings, Antony Quinn Bay is simply magical and lovable! Undoubtedly, one of the best things to do in Rhodes island!

Ladiko bay

The spot is very popular particularly during peak months of summer in August and July. In case there are large crowds on the beach, you can simply go to Ladiko Beach that is set around a tiny cove on the other side of the cliffs. Here, you will find facilities such as a taverna, showers, umbrellas and sun lounges.

There are plenty of water activities around such us scuba diving and snorkeling. Moreover, Ladiko bay area is considered as  one of the best places for rock climbing in Rhodes!
