A Rhodes Hiking Tour allow you to explore the contrasting beauty of this ‘green and pleasant island’. Rhodes is a patchwork of counties, described by countless poets and writers, steeped in history and mythology. Moreover is sleek modern cities, verdant rolling hills, jagged imposing mountains and timeless quaint villages. These contrasts work in harmony to make Rhodes a beautiful place to visit and even more so to walk through. Our Rhodes Hiking Tour obviously has so much more to offer and so we head down to get a real taste of famous tourist attraction.
Important to know:
Our Lindos hiking tour runs every Tuesday and starts from Vlicha beach on the East coast of Rhodes. As we set off on this trail, we leave behind the noisy main road and walk towards the west on a dirt track while find ourselves hiking in the shade of old pine trees. This Rhodes Hiking Tour takes us past impressive limestone mountain sides and on the way we visit a massive cave. You also have the chance to visit an important historical archaeological site.
The colours are imposing when we look down onto “Navarone Bay” where we look at the blues and greens of the water there. Once in Lindos you have time to discover narrow lanes from up close and visit the acropolis if you wish. On the way back we take an alternate route, allowing us to watch Lindosfrom yet another angle. A stop to a little church, situated among the rocks is also part of our return journey.
Mt Profitis Elias Hiking Tour runs every Wednesday and begins from Salakos. A small agricultural village, located on the foothills of Profitis Elias. Most of the hike is under the shade of olive, ilex and pine trees. This creates a comfortable temperature to enjoy the challenge as well as the surroundings. As we getting higher, we enjoy the stunning views of the Aegean Sea, the turkish coastline, Halki island and some of the nearby ones.
Once we arrive at the top, and before approaching the two famous hotels there called “Elafos” and “Elafina”you get to enjoy the calm of the pine forest and of a quiet picnic area. These buildings were built in Alpine Style by the Italians. We will also visit the mysterious“Villa de Vecci”, house of the former Italian Governor and of course, the Byzantine church of Profitis Elias. After a short stop and a quick snack, we begin the descent back to the village of Salakos.
Mt Akramitis Hiking Tour runs every Friday and starts from the beautiful village of Monolithos. Our goal on this Rhodes Hiking Tour is to conquer the summit of Akramitis mountain, the second highest in Rhodes!
The hike gradually ascends on green slopes and soon becomes more demanding as we start to clamber over the rocks that make up our path. Wherever you look there are impressive photo opportunities. This meadow like area leads us to our first stop of the day, the tiny chapel of St John, where we have a snack enjoying one of the pies Greece is known for!
Just before we arrive, we find ourselves scrambling over rocks for a short time. From the top of Akramitis, you can have a 360 panoramic view. Inland Rhodes, its nearby islands, the artificial lake of Apollakia and Attaviros mountain.
On our way back, we take an alternate route, one that takes us through a forest of tall pine trees. This Rhodes hiking tour is ideal for anybody who likes to explore the beaten track as well as more experienced hikers will undoubtedly be glad they came!!
